Welcome to Year 2

Maths

We have been doing lots of familiarisation with numbers up to 100 to help plug the gaps from our time off. This has helped our understanding of place value come along, looking at any 2 digit number and knowing that it can be broken down into tens and ones. We have started working on word problems to deepen our understanding of this content and work as a team to help each other to explore ways to find answers. We have used a lot of the counting stick which develops our understanding of number positioning and counting- for example, if 10 is at this side and 20 at the other, what do you think goes at this half way point and why? Our reasoning skills have developed really well from these tasks.

English

We have just finished a lovely topic on The Enormous Crocodile. Pupils created story maps to familiarise themselves with the story and the vocabulary within it. We learned about nouns, adjectives and expanded noun phrases! We put ourselves in Roald Dahl's shoes and wrote our own version of the story to finish the topic.

Computing

We have been continuing to build upon our abilities to use scratch on the iPads. It is teaching us about coding and how computers follow algorithms to work and perform.

Science

During this Autumn term we have been learning about humans and animals. We recently learned how to record data in a tally and bar graph, and carried out a scientific enquiry to find out if eye colour correlated with height! We concluded that people with blue eyes had the largest ratio of taller people within our class.
